Skypetopia

I’m really cute sometimes you guys.

I love Skype. Skype is a wonderful thing. It allows me tospeak to friends 485 miles away from me. It’s better than calling because faceit, seeing someone’s facial reaction to something is far better than justhearing their voice or getting a “lol” response.
It helps me keep in touch with people from home. I alsoheard that some businesses conduct Skype interviews. This allows people who don’tlive in the city to Skype in for their interview instead of travelling. This allowsboth parties to be relieved of travel time and expenses.
These are just some of the good things about Skype, butthere are some bad as well.
Though I love Skype and use it a few times a week, I dobelieve that there could be some negative implications to it also is kind ofscary. There are people I know who see each other every day in high school andthen feel the need to video chat on Skype when they get home. What did youforget to say when you were with them all day? It’s almost like you never leaveschool.
Come on guys! Who wants to be at school 24/7, especially high school? Oh youdidn’t hate high school? Then you might enjoy this society.
I feel like if used improperly, Skype can cause a slightdystopia (I use this word because it’s in the prompt, not because I actuallylike it as a descriptor). If people see each other all day every day and feelthe need to go home to Skype with those same people, that’s kind of a problemfor me.
The world could get to a point where you are FaceTiming, orSkyping on your phone IN THE SAME PLACE AS YOUR FRIEND!!
I can totally see Starbucks trips happening via Skype. Notlike, both people are in different Starbucks, but both of them in the same onechatting electronically.
I think this will be a small group of people, but I can seesomeone getting to the point where he or she won’t leave his or her house because heor she could just Skype a friend. (Why does proper grammar suck so much?)
Do you think I’m being dramatic, or do you see somedownsides to Skype as well?
